Fred Caterson Reserve is home to many plant and animal species, some at risk of extinction.

The Master Plan for Fred Caterson Reserve includes:

The expansion into bushland of most existing sporting facilities, and the construction of concrete pathways.
Building an elite premier rugby complex on the former Pony Club site (for Eastwood Rugby at this time).
Loss of more than 50,000 square metres of remnant urban bushland

The Master Plan is a 30-year plan, but The Hills Shire Council has prioritised the construction of the elite rugby facility at this time.

In June 2023, $4.5 million of funding was allocated to commence construction on the elite rugby facility. This funding was sourced from developer contributions from the Showground Precinct. These contributions are to be used for community facilities required as a direct result of the development.

Alleged Collusion & Corruption in The Hills Shire Council

As per media reports covering the scandal about collusion and corruption in The Hills Shire Council, a parliamentary inquiry was raised to investigate the issue. The inquiry, initiated by a Member of Parliament under parliamentary privilege, claimed that a developer paid significant funds to the Liberal Party to replace elected council members with those favorable to his development projects.

The inquiry concluded with a recommendation to refer the influence of property developers in the Hills Shire to ICAC for further investigation. It also suggested that the council might need to be placed under administration due to the seriousness of the allegations and lack of cooperation from key witnesses.

Given these troubling revelations, it’s more important than ever to restore integrity, accountability, and transparency to our local government. This is why we are urging you to vote for Jane in the upcoming local government elections.

Labor has commenced the upgrade of Castle Hill Public School

Castle Hill Public School

The upgrade of Castle Hill Public School will include new fit-for-purpose classrooms and upgraded core facilities to support the growing population of North West Sydney. The project will deliver a new three-storey building with permanent classrooms and a new hall and student amenities. The upgrade will also provide facilities for specialist support classes, and refurbished administration and staff areas.

Main works starting

The main construction works for the school upgrade are expected to start in mid-November 2023. Initial works will involve bulk excavation, demolishing existing pavements, and installing a new on-site stormwater detention (OSD) tank within the construction zone. Some trees will need to be removed from the school site, including a Jacaranda tree on Les Shore Place, next to the Kids of the Castle child care centre. The project’s arborist report identified that these trees will be impacted by the construction works. New trees will be planted as part of the project. These works will prepare the site for construction of the new three-storey building, new hall, canteen and COLA. There will be an increase in construction vehicle traffic during these works, as trucks enter and exit the site with building materials via the QIC car park. Traffic control will be in place to ensure the safety of the community, where needed.

Working hours

The approved working hours for this project are 7 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturdays. No work will take place on Sundays or public holidays.

How we manage construction impacts

During construction, the area will be fenced off from the rest of the school grounds to keep students safe and ensure they do not access the worksite.
